Rab, regarding the valves on the radiators - we havent touched these since the ch was working at the weekend - so id presume they are still open - the only ones we have fiddled with are the thermostatic ones
Well got home today and now the hw isnt working either - luckily there is still an immersion heater in the property- so ive fired it up and this will see us through till next week when the combi is installed.
Thanks for all the help and advice - im guessing that its just bad luck that everything started packing in on this dinosaur a month after we bought the flat lol, at least everything with be simplified and covered by warranty with the new system
Its a greenstar - the light goes on when hw is turned on at programmer but not for ch. Likewise the pump next to the valves goes on for hw but not ch - i think is must be an issues with the valves as the water doesnt seem to pass through either of them now - regardless if lever is in MAN or AUTO positions,
Ill just make-do with the immersion and use the gas fire in living room if it gets too cold lol
to let you understand, when there is a call for CH or hw then power is sent to the valve and a motor opens the valve to allow water to pass through the valve, once the valve is fully open the motor closes a micro switch , which in turn switches on the boiler and the pump, it sounds like your CH valve is not operating, Latching it in the open position will allow water to flow through it but will not make the micro switch, hence latching the CH valve should give you CH when the HW demand is active, the HW valve seems to be functioning correctly if the pump is running when demanded.
