carillion have been on the go a lot longer than warmfront, originally their forte was top end construction (roads, bridges that type of thing) they then bought into the social housing market, by buying Mowlem, who bought into social housing by buying Scottish Homes in 1994
they make a point in pricing for contracts they want and if unsuccessful they buy the company who won the contract to get the work, and it sometimes has disastrous results chasing turnover, there are loads of different departments and sub companies under the carillion banner most of them dont know anything about each other, from what ive heard the install side is a complete disaster run by the wrong people driven by idiots who dont know domestic construction, so the guys at the sharp end and the customers are doomed
i worked for them for about 19 years (in their various names) as plumber/gas then supervisor then gas manager running the scottish department, lest alone to run the contracts we managed fine and the gas departments top line was about £1.6 million per year with about 6% profit, but they just lost the plot and it all went pete tong, the guys i still speak to in the domesic service side seem to be struggling for contracts now

Ah , most interesting - I wonder which politician / party made them think they could make money out of social housing . Glad you got 19 years wages/salary out of it . I got out of the S. Housing nonsense in 1987 - then it all went Very Silly I was the rat that left the sinking ship.
Carillion's M&E experience is mainly Commercial/Industrial being a make up of Matthew Hall and Planned Maintenance Engineering (Both Companies had a Long and enviable history before becoming part of the Carillion brand!) I have to confess I didn't know they even bothered with small domestic works!!
