Ah, an acronym. I must be a bit of an acronymbie, as it went right over my head.
No, it's not that sort of CP (acronym for car park
)Free for first 2 hours, ridiculous penalty for overstayers. My offence however, was parking in a space that wasn't lined out as a designated space. I caused no obstruction, and funnily enough, the spot I parked in used to actually be a lined/designated space a few years ago. When they redid the CP, they didn't put lines on the space. People park there ocasionally though, as I used to. First time I ever got a ticket for doing so.

Apparently under 50 cases have gone to a small claims court hearing nationwide, and thats probably because the person incriminated themselves...

Nothing like going over to Co-op and speaking to customer services and explain that you genuinely thought the spot was ok to park and you came to do your shopping and have a proof of purchase, and show your bill, and the manager will surely ask the parking company to cancel the ticket.
But have you tried it? and you will find you have 50% chance of it getting quashed rather than none if you didn't try.

You must not contact the parking company in anyway at all because once you contact them it then become's enforceable . All you'll get are few intimidating letters bleating on about court etc just bin them it won't happen. If they are working for the local authority then that's different but here it seem's their not.

go there and do a search first, then if you didn't find something recent and applicable, start a thread about it
don't get caught up in the minutae of "silver van" vs "grey car", going to see the co-op, writing letters to the parking company - it's completely a waste of your time and no one you speak to will give a toss about the points you raise. you've been handed an invoice from a company, not a fine. only government bodies can fine you. would you enter into lengthy dialogue with a window cleaner who cleaned your windows without asking, invoiced you 10 times the normal going rate for window cleaning, and threatened to double it if unpaid within 7 days?
balance that out against your appetite for stress; will you lie awake at night for hours worrying over the window cleaners invoice? if not, toss it in the bin. if yes, pay the £45 and get on with your life because it's a bargain

Its unenforceable either way. Ignore, ignore, ignore.
They soon go away.
However you are able to contact them and tell them that you are not indebted to them, that any further communications will be billed to them for reading etc and play with them.
You just do not accept liability for their unfair contract terms.
A friend got his ticket waived by a store manager/customer services where he took his disabled dad for a shopping in a Morrison car park, close to Stratford Olympics park, as other people started to use that car park for their convenience other than shopping.
This car park uses CCTV camera and ANPR such that it checks all incoming cars and outgoing cars and everyone needs to purchase a ticket with money and punching in your registration number, then get the charge refunded through Checkouts once you have spent over five pounds, and you are allowed 2 hrs Max.
He thought he didn't need to purchase a ticket as his dad had a blue badge, but he got a ticket in the post, and he went back to store, the customer services cancelled his ticket once he showed them the blue badge and purchase receipt for shopping.

Yes, they could take you to a civil court, but no company in it's right mind is going to incur the legal costs that may or may not be recoverable from a civil action.
Then, if they win, they have the further task of getting their money.
