And OP you can use the nest with an 8000 and utilise the open therm technology, you just need a converter to do so, I guess the experienced guys neglected to tell you that

Have a good amount of intergas boilers in our stock, had loads of issues with them. Faulty parts being one of them. So many issues with the Honeywell thermostat as well, changed about 4 of them up to now, and had to readjust about 10 of them for screen related issues. Just thought I’d share.

Ask 10 different engineers and probably get 10 different answers (as you’ve found out). I like Vaillant and don’t mind some pottertons and Worcester’s. Customer/engineer support is a big one for me.

Yeah I think it’s going to have to be a valiant or a Worcester otherwise the next owner of the flat is going to think I was a Diy nut lady or think it was funny.

Both quality boilers, in my opinion. Not without their flaws , but no boiler is. When it breaks down, and it will break down, that's inevitable, you'll get great back up with both

Yeah just make sure you use a registered gas installer

As someone who has been around here a long time, I can say that the 'best' boiler on here changes with the wind
What's considered to be the best now may well end up being slagged off in 5 years time.

By far and away the most important thing I suspect is the general quality of the install and aftercare.
The best boiler in the world will not take kindly to being installed incorrectly on a dirty system.
Similarly, servicing by a decent engineer and preventative maintenence is essential, and with this even the unloved brands will be fine.

Choose your installer wisely.

I have a good installer who has come reccomended - This is why I want to change the boiler - Its actually still working but it looks like its on its last legs and previously had sludge .....

So now i have an installer I just need to find a good boiler - Its a small two bed flat with combi boiler already there and easy access as on ground floor.

I know I need a flue / magnatec filter new nest controls (we have an old honeywell wired thermostat) and a boiler!!! The worcester 2000 fits the bill as it is 25KW and the rightish size but without nest compatability it sucks!~

If you have a good installer, then surely go on his/her recommendation? Each installer has their own preference and, from experience, I'd recommend the installer install what they are well versed in, rather than getting them to install something they've never come across before.

As for "nest compatibility" - for the Nest 3rd Gen, I dont think there is a boiler / central heating system out there that does not work with it. It's an on/off thermostat (with opentherm capability) and will work with combi, non-combi boilers, zoned systems, on-off control and opentherm control.
