Are open flued boilers okay in rental properties?

We need to get our boiler inspected, and a heating engineer has (1) asked if we realise it is an open flued boiler and (2) let us know that if is does not pass the inspection test that the gas supply will be immedatley shut off at the meter.

This has got us worried. Is there anything wrong with open flued boilers? And does this look like a boiler that would not pass an inspection?

Thank you.

As long as the fluing, ventilation and any warning labels are correct and the boiler in good order I don't see any problem.
Any boiler including even the most modern should be shut off if they are found to be dangerous, that's standard practice.

Get a different engineer. These boilers are great pieces of engineering.

They need to be properly serviced and maintained.

Recently repaired the wall hung brother of that (the Flamingo). Was 40 years old if it was a day and working perfectly once again. Wouldn't be surprised if it is still going in ten years time.

Who issued the Landlords cert last year?
Get the same person/firm to do this year’s.

It's Balanced Flue so it is sealed to the room (similar to a more modern boiler) Was the engineer from British Gas ?

As already advised that is not an open flued boiler, that is a balanced flue boiler, and will out last any of the new condensing boilers, you need a new Gas engineer not a new boiler.

After all that lets hope it has got a terminal (that would be a very open flue;)) maybe no one has checked outside before :p:p:p:p:p:p:p

It has been a long time since I posted this question. In the end we called a plumber who we had used in the past (I don't know why we didn't call him first!?) and he came round, inspected and gave us the certificate. No problems.

Thank you all so much for your comments, they were very helpful.
