However what practical use is social interaction? Just so long as he doesn't do anything that gets himself arrested, fired or attacked then the ability to discuss the minutiae of a soccer match is of no consequence whatsoever.

Not really answering this for AdamW as I know he is no longer around to debate the issue. However, I can tell you what practical use social interaction has, mental health, I would hazzard a guess that the fellow he mentioned finds it exteremly difficult to make friends, and will in many times in his life feel lonely and isolated.
