Artificial grass installation advice

I’m not sure, I’ve never tried to compact soil that well.

I’ve done mine today. I’ll let it settle then either skim over with more grit in a couple of month's or give it a wackering next time I hire one at work.

Looking good! Did you use granite dust or sharp sand?

I need 10 tonnes of granite dust! This will cost me just as much as the artificial grass!

I'm thinking on laying the grass directly on the soil once I've compacted it with a whacker plate

What do you think? Is it a total no no to do it this way, what are the risks?

Weeds are the risk, the sand and weed barrier would block out all the sun to the soil below and stop weeds germinating. Also when mud gets wet its all squwelchy, the sand will help take water away from the surface and stay nice and firm.
