Attracting Hedgehogs

When I trapped, I got two different ones. The researcher came and took them away for the day, where they were ringed and weighed, fed and rested, then released back in my garden at night

Quite cute close up

3 hedgehogs! You must have a very hedgehog friendly garden :)

I was lucky enough to have just 1 hedgehog, but that was a few years ago! Sadly we dont have any fence gaps, but I might try and cut some, if I can find a spot the neighbours wont spot - I dont want to be accused of being a Victor Meldrew :)

Hedgehog boxes....I reckon I could find space for a couple.

Not at all - our garden is tiny and mostly concrete and a shed (tho changing it next Spring for when our new resident, the tortoise wakes up) but there is a church yard about 20 yards away where we saw them walk from into our garden. The food attracted them first and then we built a couple of boxes which were used on and off for weeks at a time. They do like somewhere to hide in the day even if they don't hibernate in them for the winter we found, but oh my, they do poop a lot inside those boxes and couldn't clean em out until they buggered off for a night :)

Arent forums great :):):)......where else could I learn that hedgehogs poop a lot :D:D

Im going to knock up a couple of hedgehog boxes, but with an easy poop cleaning false bottom

I was given a bee house 3 years ago and its sat in the garage since, so Im determined to use it next year

I’m back on with my hedgehogging.

I’ve made a hole through the wall and also got a log/stump pile in the garden. All I have at home is some corned beef so i’be put a bit of that in the wall cavity and under the log pile. I’ve been sat in the kitchen for 3 minutes wondering why haven’t I seen one yet :LOL:

Corned beef is far too salty for hedgehogs!!
And you need a bowl of water...

Ok, so tomorow i’ll get some better food, a bowl and a sign that says ‘please keep off the grass’ (y)

As the hole in the wall is raised off the ground, they might not find it while snuffling around. You need an Accessible Ramp.

They can climb up a bit, once they've found the path.

Used to have a couple of the critters in our previous garden, until next door cut off their 'run' with a new fence...

Now no longer have the space to attract them :(

And you need a sign

This is not actually for the hogs to read, but to discourage people from blocking it up, especially on the other side. You could paint a hog silhouette instead.

We have a hedgehog house, don't think anybody has moved in yet - did see one passing through the garden once though.
Have a new concrete fence now, but kept some gaps under the weatherboards for access.
Garden is messy, some slugs about, hopefully this will attract the hogs.
