Another update (and plea for sugesstions!), I turned off the mains stopcock last night as sugessted by meldrews_mate, and this morning the banging was still there! Surely it cant be the ballvalve in the tank if there was no feed..?
I'm wondering if it could be air in the pipes somewhere, and when the house naturally starts to heat up in the morning at sunrise (NOT with C/H!) it causes the air in the pipes to try and move? Does this sound possible or am I way off the mark here?
Any further help/sugesstions are much appreciated.
