The Powerwall is viable not only with solar panels, but also using cheap economy 7 overnight electricity to charge up.
I thought that. One refinery in the UK uses the equivalent level of electricity of Leicester & Coventry to produce petro fuels. Remove that with cars charging directly to the electricity source, then we have enough power generation - and less pollution. National Grid stated so. Power stations pay companies at times to use electricity they produce too much, from wind, etc. It is slow and expensive to stop and start some power stations, so it is best they left on overnight. Some are small peak time stations (peakers), which are generally gas, which can be brought on immediately. There is one on the North Circular Road near Wembley. As soon as the demand for over night electricity increases as a result of people charging their cars/powerwalls etc surely the price of the off peak electricity will increase?

There are also grid battery storage banks. Banks of batteries in Tesco like sheds that are used for peak use only. The idea is to smooth out the peaks and troughs in demand.
Also the use of solar panels and Powerwalls will reduce the need for overnight electricity usage.
Correct. But there are few council homes left. All government, inc forces, buildings could have solar panels fitted. Now if we had a Socialist government, every council house would have solar panels, now.
Looks like phasing out will start in 10-15 years time.

Solar panels on the roof with a Tesla Powerwall battery means gas is not needed - all can be electric. Then we do not need to rely on the Ruskies for gas in the future.
No matter how much or how little heating energy a house/flat requires, unless/until the price of electricity falls dramatically and/or the price of gas rises dramatically, it will remain the case that heating energy (no matter how little or how much is needed) will cost 2-3 times more with electricity than with gas.....The heavy insulation means they do not need gas. Point of use electrical hot water appliances/taps have also come along making matters easier. Electric UFH is cheap, easy and takes up no space.
