Bath is leaking from beneath plug hole please read body

You should always be aiming to have an incline on the waste pipe, otherwise gravity won't really be helping you out very much. You also want to have as little pipework to the main outlet as possible.

If the waste pipe was pulling it over, why didn't you fit the trap to the bath and then connect the pipework to it? That way you will know if there is any undue stress on the pipework and exactly where to make your modifications.

You can use 'compression' if you like, solvent isn't hard to do either though.

Try one of these which will give you more flexibility, and a better "water seal" on the trap.

And support all the pipes! Lumps of wood will do. You only need a shallow fall (1:40)
 
Just to says thank you as TeaTime suggested I attached the trap to the bath first then ran a new piece of 40mm to the grey pipe - 2 weeks and no leak.

So job done I reckon..
