Hi Guys.

I have a bathroom extractor, it's cabled with 3+E, from the supply, to a 3 pole isolator (outside the bathroom) then the switched live is ran via a pull switch (just a standard light type) onto the fan.

All works great, but as the fan has over-run timer, it's not clear when the pull cord is on or off (since it can be off, but the fan running).

I don't think I'd be able to wire up a neon style pull cord since there isn't a N+L in the switch, but a lot of these neon switches seem to have a mechanical indicator as well, are there any issues with simply replacing the pull cord with a switch which has a mechanical indicator, and ignoring the neon?

Thanks
Paul

Unfortunately that one says "FAN ISOLATOR" on it, and you're not actually using it as an isolator are you?
That could be considered dangerous, i.e. someone turns off the isolator but there are still live wires when they open up the fan.
If you cn't find an alternative, do at least obliterate the word "isolator" before you fit it!

(You might be tempted to wire the neon from switched live to earth. Is that even worse than an isolator that isn't? Discuss!)

Correct. I noticed that, wasn't 100% sure on the correctness of using a mislabeled switch. I guess I could sand it off probably.
