Bathroom Mirror Lights

Hi All,

Just wondered if you could clue me up regarding bathroom mirror lighting.

How good are they in respect of allowing you to see well for shaving etc , could you rely just on them.

Which gives a better light, led, halogen bulb or fluorescent types ?

Have seem some working in shops but hard to judge how good they would be in your own bathroom - the other shop lights too bright.

Seen the Wickes led one, but mounted 8ft up hard to see !

The new led one in Screwfix sounds good but impossible to see.

Any thoughts on providing the light from separate fitting like the typical shaver lamps, but say from the side to give a better beam.

Remember that the idea is to light your face not the mirror. For this purpose, unless the mirror is very tall, over the mirror should be as effective as either side. I would suggest that fluorescent would be the least successful - the colour rendering is very cold compared to others, there can be starting delays and flicker too. Tungsten halogen is really bright and may blind you which doesn't help when you're shaving. The old fashioned det tunsgsten striplamp gives the best light in these circumstances but is quite inefficient. Look out for new LED lamps that go into striplights either with shaver socket or without. These can be mounted vertically with the LED lamp if required. You might find a better selection on the internet rather than in the sheds.

You can get fluorescents with similar colour temperature to halogen, and he wants to shave, not produce art work.

Neither of those with high-frequency ballasts.
