My bathroom sink has suddenly started gurgling but there's no blockage.

I've removed the pipe that go from the sink (I believe it's called the p-trap) and.took them apart and weirdly, they seem to drain fine separately when just running water through them, but once they're back together, it seems to not want to go around the connection bend. So water just back up to the top of the straight pipe part that goes from the sink.

I would appreciate any advice on what I can do before contacting my housing association (I wanted to see if it was a simple fix before wasting their time).

It is possible that the blockage is further downstream. When you flush the loo, does the water level initially drop before coming back up? The latter would suggest an obstruction in the sewer. That said, I don't think it would have a significant effect on on the sink, suggesting that the waste from the sink has a blockage.

BTW I am not a plumber...

Try what I did recently when our washbasin was gurgling.
Fill the sink as much as you can, then release the plug.
Whatever was causing our problem was washed away and the sink no longer gurgles.

Thank you so much for this advice! The gurgling appears to have stopped after a few tries of this!

I was born in God's Own County of Yorkshire, where they are all 'sinks'. 'Basins' are for posh people!
