First post so be gentle - Signed up for BG HomeCare a week ago after someone at work recommended them having had a boiler failure. Thought would be a good idea.
2 Days later when running a bath Hot water would run for a bit then run cold for a few seconds then return to hot. Warm enough for a bath so living with it.
Yesterday, Central heating on and ran a sink of water for washing up... Warm at first then COLD and didn't come back warm.
Went to check Boiler (under house in a garage) and first three red leds flashing with last one be Fan/Flue Failure.
Reset boiler using knob
Came back on some clicks and then Central heating fired up. Finished washing up and went out leaving heating on. Came home to a chilly house, checked therm and clock and all suggested it was on so checked boiler - Once again Flashing LED for Flue / Fan failure.
Another Reset and heating would come back on again.
Turned straight off to investigate further
Removed cover and inner plate to check fan ... Fan would spin cleanly, fired boiler up and everything kicked in to life.
Replaced inner and outer cover - But after a while approx. 1-2hours heating went off again.
So assume that BG Homecare would not cover me even if I waited another 6 days as pre-existing condition, what are my best options without getting ripped off by someone (bad experience in a previous property damaged my trust in Yellow Pages engineers! - sorry guys/gals).
Should I wait then call BG and try claim?
Should I call BG now and plead with them for a fixed repair (how much would this be?) at a discount
Should I find another engineer - I have the installers number
Having looked at this forum have seen a multiple of suggestions from Fans/PCB/Venturi/Air Pressure Switch etc. having researched prices have seen anything from £100 for Fan/PCB to a few quid for other parts. So concerned that I get a huge bill for a cheap part.
Advice before I freeze and the Mrs kicks my head in for having no hot water (thank good for the electric shower!).
Help?
