Matt, you do seem to have a little inkling of how to follow through boiler fault finding.
But you do need to understand that fault finding charts are NOT the way to identify faults. Certainly they will help a dim engineer but they are not the proper way. Nor are calls to the makers, again they will halp a dim engineer but all they can do is to mention common causes of symptoms.
Now the APS mentioned early on is not something any DIY should be touching but its only a simple switch activated by air pressure. A competent engineer will be able to measure the contact resistance and the pressure at which it operates.
Someone who "thinks" its the APS and whose sole ability is to order a new one and swap it to see if it cures the fault is a parts changer and not a true engineer.
