Baxi 105he problem.

I have a problem with the preheat function. When it is on there is a loud slurping noise and a sort of what can only be described as Water being poured on hot coals sound comming from the top part of the boiler, when I turn the hot water on and after the tap has been turned off. The radiators have been bled so there is no air in them.
When the preheat is turned off the noise eventually goes away, but the boiler goes on for about 3 minuites before turnining off. Also the water that is stored for the preheat is very hot when it comes out of the tap no matter what preheat setting.
I have been told that the slurping noise is trapped air and will eventually go away but we have had the boiler 4 months now and it is driving me mad. Any ideas? Thanks.

Ask the install to return to sort it out under their guarantee.

If they have any idea I expect they may be checking the charge in the expansion vessel.

Thanks for your reply, when you say the charge in the expansion vessel do you mean pumping air into it by a foot pump?
What I haven't told you is I have called Heateam out 3 times about the problem and they have changed quite a few parts... Diverter, Valves and godknows what else, but they have not checked the charge in the expansion vessel., the noise still remains.
The last time they came out I wasn't in so my wife delt with him and she said after that it was like she was wasting his time with something that he thought was air in the system. You would expect someone from heateam to know what the problem is.

ive had a few jobs that have had the same problem, and to cure it i got my hands on a special expansion vessel with an auto air vent in it. it is not availible comercialy, and only a few have been made.

the problem indeed is air traped in the expansion vessel.

try calling us (heateam) out again and asking the engineer about this (he may not know about it) if you have any problems get him to call 201 (engineer no.) and i will sort out a part no for him to oreder....

Thanks for your reply.... I dont know much about an expansion vessel but one contains water and one air, the water when heated expands against the air? It's the water vessel your talking about?
Also would this part come under warranty as my boiler is only 4 months old? is this a common problem with the 105he Thanks.

Thanks again for your quick reply. Baxi must know about the problem if there is a 2 week delay in the part. I suppose word hasn't got round to all the engineer's yet. I will contact heateam tomorrow so expect a call from the engineer within the next week or so. Do you know the reason why the air is stuck in the expansion vessel and does it mean the boiler off the wall? Thanks.

Are you sure that it is not possible to cure it in situ by depressurising the heating and filling in one direction like on the Viessmanns?

it may not have to come off the wall, if you have enough access above the boiler.....


as for your idea agile, im not the attensing engineer, as couldnt answer that....

Just a quick update. Heateam came out today so I mentioned what I thought it could be after finding out from this site, he agreed and said he would try something but if that didnt work we would need a new expansion vessel. He also said about them being fitted with an automatic air vent and it being a 2 man job, he also seemed concerned that the other engineers hadn't picked up on the problem. As he left he joked that he would see me next week to fit one.
He cured the slurping for about 20 mins, so I called up Heateam to arrange to have the new expansion vessel fitted. There was no record on their system about fitting an expansion vessel so they contacted the engineer who said we had misunderstood him, so after a bit of persuasion from me she said the engineer will order the part and it should be fitted late next week.
It looks like the engineers around my area dont want to diagnose a big problem cause if they do they have to order the part and fix it themselves, they seem much happier changing small parts that dont need changing and passing the buck. This is the fourth engineer who has tried to fix my boiler and I had to tell them what the problem was after finding out from jasonvaughan on this site.
Heateam Northwest I am not at all happy.

I came across a Worcester C1 (never seen this type before) combi the other day - this too had an aav on the expansion vessel - perhaps this boiler model had similar problems.
