Baxi Bermuda 552 Back boiler

The largest fire front gives out roughly 6kw so the rule of thumb was to allow the fire as adventatious and work out vent for boiler max output. Although for exams you would add the two data badges together and work it out from there and taking ref to man instructions if min size given.

4.5 cm for Gross, 5 for Net, BBU KW +Fire front Kw -7 x 4.5 for an old Bermuda.

0 - 39% AR
40 - 89 NCS UNTIL 1/6/08 (Boiler might not last that long :) )
90 - 100 OK

However if terminal is incorrect consideration must be made to upgrade to AR if any other fluing/ventillation problems. So even with the correct ventillation (100cm core vent) everything else must be perfect.

Always recommend CO alarm on the paperwork for OF (cover one's arse)

Paperwork indicates the boiler was not turned off, also a BP of 18 mbar (though they were lower than this normally).

552 requires a total of 90cm² ventilation
regardless,
of which of the 13 different fire fronts is fitted.

This paperwork is for the fire front a Bermuda B

Burner pressure should be 18.1 ± 1.0mbar

Will try hard to get pix of wall vents and room vent this weekend for your perusal! Busy fitting bathrooms right now.

Any feedback on siting a combi instead of Bermuda??

I am trying to obtain a grant on behalf of my elderly parents for a new boiler under the Warm Front Scheme. Their existing back boiler is old, undersized and inefficient. Their house is small (2 up, 2 down) and they have to have a vent through the wall 10 cm x 10 cm to provide air making the room even colder. The walls are solid brick and the outline of the old chimney flue can be traced on the external brickwork. I do not know whether the boiler has a gas metal flue. Warm Front say that as it works - that's good enough. Apart from putting a pick through the fire, can anyone make a suggestion as to how the fire could be condemned?

no, have you thought of paying for a new boiler to be installed?

Yes, I did.

I then looked at all the other people who benefit with grants of this type including private landlords, bent plumbers who claim for their own rented out property etc. and thought, why should I pay when other better off people can have it provided to them for nothing.

My parents who are nearly 90 and are receiving benefits are entitled to these schemes just like everyone else. The fact that they have a boiler of such poor efficiency that it uses twice as much gas as a modern one whilst at the same time is inadequately sized, and has an insufficient number of radiators to heat the property to a comfortable level, should not mean that they are exempt from having something better just because it lights!

I'll come round and do a flue flow test that should do the trick. Where do you live I'll get my hat and coat?

Anyway as for bent plumbers.

We suffer at the hands of warm front we loose no end of customers to it. I don't know a single plumber who has used the system.

I needed a new boiler so picked one out on ebay £145 3 year old band A potterton. fitted it.

As for warm front customers.

I know one who had full heating fitted at home Torquey and in his hliday flat Scarborough (my manor). Then one day he phoned me from torquey with symptoms (basically combi geting hot but no heating) I said you either have a dripping tap or a hot pipe leaking under the floor.

aYesterday he rang me "you were right Paul a push fit wasn't pushed right on, anyway I called warm front they sent a man round and said you can have a new boiler"

so to cut a long story short nothing rong with his one 7 year old fitted by them. There man came to see what was rong and said "not worth fixing these old things we'll fit you a new one"

THAT IS WHERE ALL OUR MONEY GOES PEOPLE into the warm front daylight robbery corruption fund which not only robs genuin plumbers of work but lines the pockets of salespeople and scoundrels. It is a national scandle of huge proportions.

what were the prices?

lets ignore all the other fraudsters out there and just ask if you are happy to be fraudulent yourself. the reason you should pay is the scheme is for people who have no money to do it themselves and are a potential risk if the dont have any heat or hot water. your parents are neither.

yes they are, when their boiler breaks down and is not repairable.

The fact that they have a boiler of such poor efficiency that it uses twice as much gas as a modern one whilst at the same time is inadequately sized, and has an insufficient number of radiators to heat the property to a comfortable level, should not mean that they are exempt from having something better just because it lights!

no im afraid it does, did they think about any of this when they were in a position to make a change themselves? have you thought about providing something for them now they clearly cant do it or is it a case of fraudulently claiming a new boiler versus the alternative of them freezing?

First who told you a back boiler is too small to heat a 2 up 2 down as this is nonsense same as new boiler will use half as much gas also nonsence . Dont believe facts and figures.
Parents are 90 then leave them with what they are used to as the sh#te warm front fit will be breaking down all the time and only confuse them Maybe add bigger rads if house is too cold or get the grant for insulation in loft and walls.
If you are expecting warmfront to change entire system for the £2700 then you are in for a wee surprise.
Don`t think you are missing out because it is meant to be free. your not

NB. The installation instructions are available for a Baxi 552 boiler on the internet. Instructions state efficiency is 74%, sounds much more realistic than 55%. The ventilation requirements are also detailed in the instructions. NB. the boiler and the gas fire could be on at the same time to correctly assess ventilation requirements.
