50/50, if there's debris in the system the valve will never seat properly again and leak, why mess with the boiler at all when you can simply drop it through a rad bleed?

Use item No.7 on ChrisRs drawing, it has a white knob and a drain point underneath, drop pressure to 1bar cold.
 
well not had no probs with them but come across the the white plastic ones drippin away.

Use boiler drain point or rad.

Only use prv is you have a replacement.

Its not rocket science - only common sense.

I went to oine today where the Polish builder had used the prv of a Vaillant (one of the TurboMaxs'). Its going to be £25 or so for the part 'cos it's the one before they started using rebranded Calefi valves.
