Regarding the 'phone hacking scandal' there were aspects of that which were terrible, particularly in the case of Milly Dowler where the parents were under the impression their daughter was still alive because of activity on the phone.

I was under the impression that 'hacking' the phones involved some sophisticated electronic process whereas it simply involved dialling the number followed by the default pin code set by the manufacturer to remotely retrieve voicemails, which depending on the network could have been 1234 or 3333.

Of course the phone networks said that the users should have changed the pin to their own pin number, but most people didn't.

The BBC has launched an investigation into a Palestinian journalist who tweeted “Hitler was right” and compared Israel to Nazi Germany.

What exactly needs to be investigated?

If she had compared Israel's policy to that of Mao, or Pol Pot or Stalin, that wouldn't have been anti-Semitic.

Edit: Additionally the journalist did not refer to Jews, she referred to the Israeli government and to IDF. Criticism of the Israeli government is not anti-Semitic, per se.

One can understand her emotion at the time, (2014) but not excuse, nor defend her reference to Hitler.

The number of civilians killed during Israel's Operation Protective Edge offensive has raised international concern and condemnation.

Between 8 July and 27 August, (2014) more than 2,100 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip, along with 66 Israeli soldiers and seven civilians in Israel.

The UN says the vast majority of Palestinian deaths are civilian. But figures from previous operations over the past six years in the densely populated Gaza Strip show it is not the first time civilians have paid a heavy price.
