Thanks Toffee I think he did. Weird how we'd never met, yet we knew each other so well. As he always said to me, his friends knew him better than his own family did - sad eh?

I think the governments's views are different to the peoples views on this BAS i've travelled to both florida and california in the past and found the people to be nice, generous and welcoming, what their government and ours get up to bears no relation on the people living both there and here.

you are what you make of yourself and to others you either earn respect or not. those that live by the way of hatred to others cannot expect respect back.
The way i look at life is treat everyone as you take them, don't always follow first impressions but allow time to see the person as they really are.

Personally i wouldn't go to america maybe i've been watching too much tv but in my view its full of crazy gun totting druggies, i know im stereo typing, but when there is more guns on the streets than the british army have, it does'nt make me feel confident about taking my family to a enviroment where guns/drugs are in your face.

funny you say that, the first time i went there, not knowing much as a tourist i felt hungry and went for a walk along the street at night on my own to find the nearest fast food outlet, the guy at the hotel reception nearly had kittens when i got back and to quote him he said "Man you don't walk around at night , you drive!" well i have walked around the streets of brixton at night and that was around the time of the riots although not at the time of one ;) and had no bother, it's really a case of bad luck to get mugged and although there are supposedly wrong places to go to in general it could happen anywhere so don't let stories like that put you off going to what i consider a wonderful place to visit with it's fantastically diverse scenery and so many things to see and do it's well worth a visit you would not be disappointed i'm sure.

generally speaking....depends on what you are looking for ...city lights, night life....larger cities....no not me at night

but smaller towns....atmosphere...scenery....kind of laid back style--great experience.

Well Mlb3c, if I had to leave the UK and move to another country I think I'd choose the USA. I have always found the American people to be warm, friendly and extremely welcoming. OK so I detest Pres Bush - I also detest Tony Blair - they are politicians and most politicians are the same!

Saying that, my local MP is a very nice man and does loads for the local people here - never likely to make it to No 10 though

No reason why he can't, just don't expect him not to change once there ;) you can't be nice to everyone and run a country at the same time it's a paradox :)
