The Beatles revolutionised music. They took the rock and roll of the 50's and turned it into the pop of the 60's.

I think that's a fair statement. They recently came third in a poll of the world's greatest rock bands, after Led Zep and Queen. The Beatles - a rock band?

I agree, but the Beatles were a close third - after the Who. (waits for the inevitable argument about mods and rockers).

But, however good they once were, the Beatles are no more. Like Sweet without Brian Connolly, I really don't think that McCartney and Starr will work.

What made the Beatles so good was their diversity. Listen to them is 63/65/69 and you'd never guess they were the same band. The Stones still sound like the the stones of 63.
