Well Fernox claim its possible to clean "up to 80%" of grot out of a system. SO how bad would it have had to have been for 20% to be too much??
I do wonder how many double rads stay sludged up on one side, with all the cleaning going on on the other. When blinded by the dubious science of thermal imagery and rubber mallets(?) it's easy to quietly forget the side you can't reach.

as others have stated avoid the cxi,what they say is true they leak like sieves.in answer to agiles post we carry out flushing on sys upgrades we do not powerflush as this is totally unnessesary add chemicals one week before starting instruct the occupier to use the heating as much as possible then we start with a drain down flush each and every rad one at a time then do all nessesary additions/alterations cold flush then let the sys get to temp rapid hot flush,then refill and flush with cold water refill with inhibitor/water test and commission to mi,s.all sys are 8mm micro bore we leave 2 test samples one with original water one with finished water out of 250 houses tested not one has failed on water qaulity or content,who needs a p/f when it is done correctly.all samples are validated by the clients clerk of works,and oh yes we do not fit steamers just good old fashioned wall mounted cast iron boilers which will outlive any modern steamer,even viessmans

I dont disagree that if proper flushing is done on each rad then power flushing is not necessary. As Paul said earlier an unnamed firm apparently did power flushing and the systems still failed the water test.

Its well known that many power flushing jobs consist of putting the pump on the system while the boiler is being fitted, no chemicals, no reversing and particularly no turning rads on one by one.

Tell me how you still fitting non condensing???

Unfortunately, on this occasion, the deed is done, the Glow worm is already going in, I may live to regret it, I did try to find out the whys and wherefores.

Sobeit, another day another dollar, to be frank I will be pleased when the council are the legal guardians of the property.

Having digested your quotes, I suppose I'll get a call in a few years time to let me know that the property needs a new boiler.

That said I would like to Thank You All Very Much, its a great forum and I'm sure will help many others in the future.

now now agile the irish are not behind the times,just not ready or want to fit these unreliable piles of condensing rubbish just like our scottish friends.the british gov can force what it likes on your shores but over here we like to be different just like the scots.condensing boilers are here and i believe we have to fit them soon but the british gov keep moving the goalposts as is their perogative

Ive had a glow worm 30 cxi for 18 months with absolutly no problems,in fact the guy who fitted it is the only honest plumber I have ever found and would recommend him to anyone.He has told me that there used to be problems with the condensate trap float jamming causing the combustion chamber to flood,but there has been a design change to the float and that no longer happens,the DHW heat exchanger has been redesigned to avoid the leakage problem.I wouldnt trust any plumber who tells you that glow worm boilers are bad..I even had the guy teling me about the scam that plumbers have with combi condensing boilers where they dont tell householders about the government scheme to pay part of the cost of fitting a new condensing boiler.

Also I was under the impression that it now illegal for a new installation not to be sebek class A or class B unless it can be shown that there are very compelling reasons that prevent that from happening, which does effectivly mean that new installations or replacement installations are going to be condensing boilers. People who say that condensing boilers are crap are talking out of their arses and thankfully that type of plumber or heating engineer or whatever they like to call themselves are now dying out.

And i should point out my heating bills have been cut by 40% and I dont have a 40 gallon hot water tank in my loft anymore.with the £300 I got back from the government It should have paid for itself within 5 years.

just to give you an idea of how bad some of these plumbers are I had three quotes for the installation,the first one told me that he couldnt remove the old hot water tank without demolishing a wall,the second one wanted over £1000 more than the other quotes and was going to fit it in a day, the one i went for fitted the new boiler and thermastatic radiator valves and removed the old tank with no problems in three days,so be aware there are a LOT of cowboy plumbers who have absolutly no idea what they are doing.

I dont think it needs a new thread it just needs people to be aware that a lot of crap is talked about condensing boilers,by people who should know better.

In England at least we have been unable to fit anything other than condensing models in the majority of cases for almost a year, so their merits and reliability are not really an issue as we don't have an option.

What I would say on the cxi is that the condensate float leak may be improved but it is not perfect I have done 2 this month.
The leaking manifolds should all have been changed by now by gw / bg, but is that going to be the only naff plastic part to fail?
They block the dhw hx's for fun even on a complete new clean system.

If you have a good one that is excellent but the failure and fault rate on these ime is unacceptable.

There is no problem per se with condensing boilers and when the technology and knowledge increase on build installation and fault finding maybe we will all sing their praises.
