we have one of these

and the the round spindle (as shown fitted) seems to have become worn and polished. This unfortunately means the rolls of abrasive that slide over the spindle are slipping too easily.

any clever ideas on how to restore the spindle , I have wrapped paper round it before fitting the abrasive roll nd it sort of helps, but it is a faff and needs doing everytime.

Ideally your bobbin sander needs a new drum......professional machines have a drum that is slightly 'crowned' - that is, the diameter at the centre is slightly bigger than the top and bottom diameters to help prevent the abrasive flying off.
You could try some velcro around the centre I guess - it may help a little.
