Bending Threaded Bar

Try your local exhaust fitters, they get U bolts very cheaply as they buy them by the hundreds.

I'm getting a dozen at 50p each from mine shortly. Less hassle than bending threaded bar.

If you do go the threaded bar route, put a pipe over the bar when bending so you do not damage the threads.

The strip is a good and cheap solution but I can imagine the stress on the holes that you screw through is a weak point. Will a good fall back

Very little stress, it's distributed over a large area, used this method myself.,
