Where ever possible grundamat (mole) will be used but some situations will not allow it ,ie if they think i might damage another service or lose it.

Well, what I can say for certain is that there at least was a reduction in the cost when we supplied an open trench; the mole for us was just used to get onto our property and into the trench. As I say though, this was a while ago, so I don't know if things are different now... In our case the use of the (as I've now found it's called) "mole" would have likely hit our mysteriously unmarked on any plan feed from our water meter, and the rather circuitous route it takes to our house...
