Sure, though I'd say strive to be careful not to alter the shape of the edge too much; if for example there is some high point and you end up sanding it off, when the two pieces are mated together there will be a hole where the point was. Try and take an even, small amount off right the way along both mating surfaces. The glue will help as it melts the plastic so you can essentially squeeze them together to fill in small gaps as the mating surfaces will be softer
To check if a solvent cement melts your chosen plastic, put a dot of solvent somewhere inconspicuous, leave it a short time then scratch it with a fingernail. If the glue has eaten into the plastic then you'll see color of the plastic on the blob of glue that is deposited on your nail
