Best place to buy a desktop

Off-topic, but hearing is 18/20 and 20/20.

I can hear my mouse across the room. Yes, it makes noise. One day I'll fix it.

In case of Dell/HP I usually suggest higher end business/corporate grade machines that have no fancy looks, but do perform well.

Indeed, the business class machines are better built as a rule of thumb. Some of Dell's laptops are actually really very good. Lenovo have put out some unreliable junk in recent years for the desktop market, though. Still rather buy one than an Acer!

I'd like to buy a new PC and want to get a PC and screen for £500.

I sold a full PC few months back, Antec 300 case, Asus mobo, Core 2 Duo @ 1.8Mhz, Corsair 4 Gig ram, 30 Gig OCZ solid state drive, DVD Writer, 512 8600 GT graphics, Zalman CPU fan, additional SATA 80 Gig drive, 23" Wide screen LCD, 5.1 Logitech X530's, Logitech cordless rumble pad, standard USB keyboard and mouse.

All for 200 quid

All of this kit was as new and ran like chit of a shovel!!

Dont knock building your own or 2nd hand, sometimes it can get you twice as good a PC as you were hoping for

Our desktop is dying a slow death and i was wondering whether to replace it with a laptop. (This is more for space saving than to use it out and about). Are laptops and desktop similar or is a desktop still the best option for robustness, memory size etc. Any brands or things to look out for?thanks
