I have a hose to paint and it has rusting edge frames and frames above the doors rusting through the masonry

In the old days it was red killrust followed by an oil based undercoat

Anything about these days that will do the job ?

Is Zinser Gardz worth a try ?

Remove metal edges and replace with plastic.i guess that won't happen.
If you can sand rust off then use a rust converter.

Gardz is a drywall sealer. Zinsser coverstain will cover rust stains.

Owatrol oil promotes itself as an anti-rust coating. I use it as an additive to maintain a wet edge when using oil based paints. Brilliant product, but I have never used it to protect metal. Their marketing spiel says that noticed that fishing boats didn't have any rust on the decks- I think that they were suggesting that gutting fish allowed the fish oils to protect the metal. The product smells like linseed oil, but equally smells like the filtered salmon oil that I used to import. It doesn't however become rancid, so I don't think it is salmon oil.
