I have been steaming wallpaper from my lounge the last week weeks and some of the paslter has come away its an old victorian house.

I have had a cold for a few weeks and it got worse today when i resumed knocking plaster off for a earth cable to be run in.

did older houses have asbestos in the plaster board its the old cement type.

i may be asking a silly question and it may just be dust makin me cough but i woudl like to ask.

asbestosis takes time to manifest itself into the lungs.

sometimes years.

asbestos was commonly used in guttering, soffit bards, corrugated sheets etc.

dangerous blue asbestos, was used as pipe lagging, mainly on industrial sized heating systems.

on building sites of yesteryear i guess the dust could have found its way any where. they were not as diligent as today.

No, it's probably just the dust.

But you should be wearing a dust mask anyway.

the ones with the little plastivc valves on the snout are more comfortable.

Yes indeed wear a mask.......I`ve been inhaling building dust for years  and it`s left me with symptoms of a 20 a day smoker  I`ve not smoked for 20 yrs.......and my knees are bugured by not using kneepads..............hard hats boots masks all good stuff now .......things used to be too macho by far

If only we knew then what we know now --- or at least if some bugger had bothered to tell us; always take all reasonable precautions if you want to live long enough to retire!

If only you know today, what you will know in the future - mobile phones, DECT phones, wireless networks, Bluetooth, wi-fi etc.

Go on ..... laugh !
