BG Service

Regardless of how much BG are paying them. A service is a service, unfortunately not everyone does them correctly or to a level that is seen to be (in my opinion) correct.

Not with BG it isn't! They offer a "generic" service for a room sealed appliance. Which is:

FGA
Burner pressure or Gas rate check.
A general dust.

That is it. So BG are lying when they talk about a "service", and they don't pay enough for or EXPECT a full service.

a service should really be what it states in the MI's. Unfortunately BG follow their rules and get away with it. They have some very "interesting" engineers working for them.

I would personally carry out a full service to my standards regardless of the amount being paid just because im like that. A little self pride is always a good thing...

But not everyone takes the same approach.

What you think or don't think should be done, or what your conscience says you do is largely irrelevant. BG pay a rate, to contractors, to do a GENERIC service. That is all they want and require. 20 quid! inc. expenses. OUTER case off, dust & visual, FGA and gas rate/burner pressure. This is for room sealed. Inner case does not come off.

thats unfortunately why the quality of gas engineers is going down hill. How can you be satisfied that a gas appliance is operating correctly and safely without inspecting the combustion area. Some appliances require seals to be changed at regular intervals to complete the service correctly. If the appliance is under warranty and this has not been done correctly the warranty could be void.

its like taking your car for a generic sercive and all it gets is a soapy wash and a hoover out.

Its a shame really...

just my opinion on it all really.

When I complained about the lack of work done in the service, BG agreed that the condensate trap should have been cleaned as part of the service. They arranged for another engineer to visit who spent at least 1.5 hours working on the boiler. Now everything is done, the boiler passed the combustion check. Whether or not they have done this work just to keep me as a customer is anybody's guess.
Seems counter productive to me to say you will service a boiler and not do them properly to customers who have repair contracts with you, as you are clearly going to get more breakdown call outs if you don't service them correctly in accordance with MI's.
