We are in the process of replacing old white PVC cladding with new cladding in our house. We like modern buildings and black cladding would be a nice contrast to red brick walls and white garage doors.

We have been warned that we should not install black cladding as black colour absorbs a lot of heat and we could end up with damaged cladding if it is very hot in summer.

The cladding material that we are considering is called HardiePlank, which is supposedly five times thicker than typical vinyl cladding and fire, moisture, rot and pest resistant.

Does anyone have any experience with how black cladding reacts to sun? Has anyone had HardiePlank installed in their house and would they recommend it?

If its bad in the sun, then why is black cladding made?

That particular cladding material is thermally stable in heat anyway. How nice it will look is another matter.

If it looks like that black Sussex/Kent cladding I think they look great.
