I think the cut off date for band B boilers is 6th of April, as long as the order was taken before October 1st 2010 - so maybe the sheds have a few days left.

It'll be interesting to see if there are none for sale come the 7th :)

thanks for your ling expertgasman, but it appears to me that this is an advert for worcester boilers, it says nothing of law, just mentions part L and how its better etc, i can't beleive a big company like B+Q will be allowed to sell boilers that can't be fitted legally, it appears to me that asertive salesmen are using a regulation ( not a law) to sell their boilers. if i have to change my boiler, i want the cheap option, sod the planet,

Anyone wanting to carry out work which is subject to the Building Regulations is required by law to make sure it complies with the Regulations.
You have been given advice in line with the latest Building Regulations but choose to rely on someone at B&Q.

Why not ask the guy at B&Q your original question posted here? Let us know what he says.

the guy at B+Q was doing his job, selling products, if they don't sell stuff they don't need workers, he's not breaking any laws selling goods, you are telling me he's a bandit, i don't think so,
can somebody tell me a definative answer, if i buy this boiler at £399, who can fit it safely for me, i can't, a gassafe plumber can't, so it means i have to find a none gassafe plumber.
is B+Q promoting unsafe installations ? i can't get my head round this.....

Brakeguy,

It is not a question of safe, but efficiency and conservation. The rules allow a concession UNTIL APRIL for preordered jobs. I take that as a deadline of March 31st, but could be open to interperation.

See this link, it is not a manufacturer, so you may look at it less cynically.

Why not write to the MD of B&Q and see how he responds?

If you can find an installer to agree, it would be possible to fit the boiler, claim it was an agreed contract pre October, and adjust the fitting date iif and when registering.

If you never move house, who will know when it was fitted?

BUT the B&Q guy is wrong

Part L is a regulation, and a Gas Safe fitter must comply. Potentially, if found to be contravening, he may be required to refit to standards at his cost.

If you go to the ICI HQ and ask the first person you see there if ICI shares are a good investment and he says "yes" do you then go and buy some?

Or do you ask a stockbroker?

The doorman at ICI is not a qualified stock market trader. If he was why does he do a £6 an hour job?

Equally why would a fully qualified and gas registered plumber work in B&Q for £7 an hour when he could earn £11 an hour working for Homeserve?

You have to consider WHO is giving advice and not what that advice is. I am sure a down and out sleeping under Blackfriars Bridge ( London SE1 ) would say anything you like for 50p !

Whilst I dont normally give anything to beggars, ( although I usually smile and say hello ) some years ago, dressed in a bow tie one of them politely asked me if I could spare any change and considering my wealthy looking dress I gave him a pound for which he politely thanked me.

Wer'n't you chilly, and where did you wear the tie. I would think twice about walking around scantilly dressed and smiling at the vulnerable.

With respect, the answer is in the question. You HAVE to use a Gas Safe RGI, and there is NO non gsr plumber authorised to install.

You have to differentiate between having the boiler fitted safely by a qualified installer and having a boiler fitted which does not comply with the latest standards.

The reality is that there are many installers both registered and not registered who will be prepared to fit them.

If you are sillly enough to have a boiler installer by a non registered with no address, only a mobile number and a first name then beware!

let me see if i got this right,
1. this is a diy advise forum
2. B+Q is a diy store
3 everybody on here agree's B+Q boilers can't be fitted legally
4 the B+Q shelf filler works for B+Q and is encouraged to tell lies

why is the public not aware of this ? and why is the sale of goods act not implied here
http://whatconsumer.co.uk/the-sale-of-goods-act/?gclid=CJvJtf6OgKgCFQoa4QodrEyZrA

No evidence for that. He probably does not know, and is assuming he does

As I said earlier, you need to talk or write to B&Q, at a level above shelf filler
