Blown Cavity Wall Insulation - BBC news today.

There are cars that are faulty, dangerous and scams. But nobody says that this means that all cars are terrible.

I've got first-hand experience of two CWI installations, both make the place much warmer with no downsides.

Those with issues make lots of noise. Those who are happy with it don't say much or anything, they just quietly get on with their lives, living in comfort and with lower bills.

It's not that different to the anti-vaccine thing, where a few freak events are used as fake evidence by crackpots to make a point that's not supported by the evidence.

Nowadays there are some advantages to making a noise My wife's brother is a journalist, so when his dog stolen for badger baiting and returned injured, he did a column in the local rag, and then got all the vet bills paid from crowd funding.

You are ducking the issue - Why? Is it because you are being challenged?
You posted a list of irrelevancies - Why? Is it because you cant stay on page?

I didn't mention "endemic".
Neither did I say its an issue with CWI endemic or one off.

The building surveyor explained his use of the term botched when he said the installation & removal had not been done properly.
He said nothing about an "endemic problem with CWI" as such.
Perhaps you confused insulation with installation?

Although Ofgem's numbers that out of three million CWI installations some hundreds of thousands have failed suggests that some national attention should be drawn to the matter?

That there are successful CWI jobs doesn't help one iota the people who have suffered with botched jobs - on the contrary it probably disturbs them enough to contact the BBC news?

The problem is that these apparently botched jobs are in people's homes, not in a scientific laboratory. Lots of homes have damp and condensation issues, those that happen to have had CWI fitted tend to blame it, often before even considering other possibilities.

There are damp houses with CWI that would be damp without it. Due to the building or lifestyle. The one in the beeb article looks like condensation caused by a lack of ventilation from the photo.

There are issues with homes that have CWI but it's impossible to cut through the incompetence and noise to see which of them is actually caused by it. Undoubtedly some are, but the beeb don't appear to be attempting to investigate to find out more, they've just reported the ideas of one probably unqualified ex-estate agent who did an evening course once.

I've no idea, but you're getting strangely angry about British CWI for someone in California.

Most people don't take the BBC very seriously these days. They were once respected, now they mostly copy and paste press releases and spread gossip.

Poster #22, are you saying in post #1 that CWI is a scam, or a rip off - the two are different? You seem to acknowledge that this is a botched job in post #18, so is the person being scammed too or ripped off?

I don't understand what point you are trying to make with those irrelevancies.

BTW, is your quote button broke?

Thousands of damp mouldy homes around due to nothing more than householders ignorance .
Not all problems are caused by someone else. But makes for interesting news without any investigation .

At least it's his own thread this time. I feel sorry for genuine posters when he jumps on their threads and turns them nasty. I, and I suspect others, are put off from offering any advice to the detriment of the ##OP## when the inevitable ranting starts.

In this case, while I'm not a fan of the "single mum compo face" I agree that this, just like solar, free boilers, heat pumps and most of these other green initiatives are ill thought out and driven by industry to make themselves huge profits at the expense of consumers, aided by naive hapless greenwashed politicians.

Anyone who accepts that a bit of insulation and render on the front and back of a terraced house is worth £8,000 is off their rocker!

He follows the Trump rhetoric - repeat enough time's ? with boring consistency using ?'s freely and arguing incessantly . I can imagine him in his MAGA hat on his old computer. He can't spout onsite ( alleged workplaces) because he will be Billy Bolax and ridiculed.

So a rebel looking for a cause then.

I'm sure there must be better things to do in California. Although...

I'm surprised they have the interweb in Norfolk already.
