Boiler replacement needed, advice on Vaillant models

Our Vaillant ecoTEC Pro 28 has multiple problems now (pump needs replacing, expansion vessel leaking, something else too). British Gas said it's better to get a replacement now, they say we need a power flush first, but can't do any of it for another week. Another engineer said the same about the replacement, but that we just need a magna clean or something, not a power flush.

We have 10 radiators (a few of them old ~ 20 years or more) and 2 bathrooms, but only 1 bathroom in use at a time. British Gas recommended the Vaillant ecoTEC Pro 30, the other guy said ecoFIT Pure 830. Looking at the website the ecoTEC Plus range looks newer (e.g. ecoTEC plus 832). I'm all confused:

- Which boiler would you recommend for my setup?
- Should I get a power flush?

I prefer the ecotec pro, but that's just my opinion. I haven't really worked on the plumber, I didn't like the ecofit pure range. BG could just be trying to sell you a power flush, all depends on existing water quality.

Tbh - Vaillant fixed price repair is cheaper than a new boiler.

Get a local heating engineer / plumber to give you a quote for repair first…..ideally a Vaillant guy

The main thing I am aware of is that the Ecotec Plus and Ecotec Pro have a stainless steel heat exchanger which many think is better. And the Ecofit Pure has an aluminium heat exchanger. Some say the Ecofit Pure is in general a cheaper design, and is really just a rebadged Glow Worm, but I don't know how true that is.

Some differences between Ecotec Plus and Pro are discussed in these posts. But this info might be out of date. The latest situation on warranties seems to be 2 years as standard for the Pro and five years as standard for the Plus. But it looks like both can be increased to seven years it seems if installed and registered by a Vaillant Advance installer. But please check this last point for yourself as it is probably the most important difference.

Ecotec Plus is an excellent boiler and carries a 10 year warranty when fitted by an Advance installer along with a Vaillant filter. Well worth investing in the sensocomfort controller as well for best efficiency, and the MyVaillant Connect gateway if you want app control. Your system needs to be clean, the method by which this is achieved will partly depend on its current state. If it's already very clean, a simple mains flush will suffice. If it's very dirty, a powerflush will be needed.

Thanks for all the advice everybody. I've found a local engineer who is also on the Vaillant installer website, he also suggests a replacement. I've chosen to replace it with another Pro, as the engineer says that the Plus might need some pipe replacement and our gas meter isn't too close, so extra cost. With him installing it I should get a 7 year warranty, but here it says I can extend that to 10 years for £150?

The sensoComfort controller and MyVaillant Connect sound interesting, is the Pro able to use these? And what does the sensoComfort do that Hive doesn't? I've currently got Hive but it's a bit **** nowdays, very slow to load and respond, so was going to connect the controller + TRVs directly to a Home Assistant machine I have. Now I'm wondering if the sensoComfort might be a good alternative.

After numerous faults over a ten year period with our EcotecPro I would be very hesitant about getting another Vaillant boiler. I’m not getting a vibe for a better alternative though.
