If it faults again just get Vaillant out under their fixed price repair scheme and if they agree it needs a pcb and a fan which I very much doubt, they will do it for around £300 and you will have a warranty, but as already said I doubt that is what was the fault
Usually an F32 code for a fan - and usually accurate. As for pcb unless it displayed an error code or kept cycling through ignition sequence then I wouldn’t be replacing that component either. I work on this boiler daily and have for years. The grinding noise mentioned earlier could be the pump.
What does " Good working order" mean?
Surely it either works properly, or not.
I can't see how leaving the air intake/snorkel tube off will cause a major problem.
If they suddenly decide there's a PCB /fan problem, it sounds fishy to me.
