Boris

Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006 creates the Public Order offence, the old Race Relation Act of '65 has largely been repealed. It didn't cover much anyway. Bojo is a smart guy, if you read what he actually wrote, it has clearly been misreported elsewhere as islamophobia. He actually says words to the effect of - as ridiculous as the burka is, Denmark should not have banned it. Cultural differences should be respected. We would dress accordingly in other countries and respect the established local culture, so why can't others who come here. Its a courtesy issue, not a hatred issue. I have the same issue with topless and naked tourists who ignore local culture.

when in Rome..etc

Not so much the birka issue that bothers me it is the outrage with which Boris's comments are recieved. The country is going insane...We want to be so politically correct, tolerant, inclusive of anybody and anything,,,fine, but it is becoming a criminal offence to say the slightest thing out of turn as it offends someone .

can you give us an example of a person being found guilty of a criminal offense just because he is a gobshite?

Are there any characteristics that a person with ambitions to be a Prime Minister should have?

Becoming...I said...Im not that impressed with where all the "hate crime" legislation is heading either...wolf whistle at a woman....hate crime...wolf whistle at a lesbian....double wammie...lesbian birka wearer......your ass is grass!...
The abuse Alan Sugar received...and the amount of coverage....over cleavage comment..FFS its stupid

so it hasn't happened but you think perhaps it might?

Did you prefer the old days when you could walk down the street and call a stranger a P*** or a N***** or a thick *****man? Or hang off a scaffold shouting Nice T***, Fat A*** at women walking by, without any criticism of your behaviour?

Personally...I have never gone in for verbally abusing strangers and no...do not hanker for the good old days....but I do think there is a difference with the Boris/Sugar situation...

I do not think any of those should be a criminal offense. Sure, deserves criticism, but a criminal offense?

lol....only a matter of time before having a sense of humour is a criminal offence too!

Well, making personal comments, wolf-whistling etc aren't considered these days having a sense of humour. I suppose most people know that being cruel isn't funny, out of the school playground that is.

But I don't agree with making a man down the street shouting obscene words a criminal.

It's a nothing issue. Blown out of proportion. I personally don't like it but it's one extreme , the other is being half naked the moment the sun is out.

Either is not illegal even though it may be unpalatable to most.

On the surface that sounds straightforward.

But at what point does it become offensive and/or intimidating?

I prefer a society where everybody is included and people feel safe to just walk down a street and get on with their lives.

Why does anybody feel the need to shout obscene comments, especially to strangers ?
