Bosch dishwasher SHV55M03GB/40 spraybars don't turn

As the wheel has already come away from the cog I cannot make a note of how it is aligned upon removal. Shall have to make a note of it next time I get hold of a 2nd hand heating assembly.
I appreciate what you say it just alternates between the spray arms but it must be aligned correctly otherwise its not doing the sequence correctly, I believe theres more to it but I could be wrong!

On closer inspection what is important is that the two cog wheels align, one cog has a tooth missing and the other has an elongated tooth, these need to be aligned.

This water flow control also has a switch that controls the heater (well, not directly as the wiring goes to the water pressure switch which also has to be engaged for the heater to be switched on), switches it on and off, as the timer rotates the cog it engages a switch for different durations.

Hey Yardie, I know this thread is crazy old but me and my husband are having the same problem with our dishwasher. Did you ever figure out the position its supposed to be in?

Such a long time ago but did get it all back together and working, still going strong now.

Trial and error unfortunately but as they are a pain to get to you don't really want to be doing more than necessary.

Are you sure it is definately the timer and not the circulation pump or blockages? Just checking.

Pretty sure, hubbys an electrician and hes positive thats the problem. Weve actually ordered the replacement part it should be here tomorrow and im praying it will fix the problem, what a crappy job! Appreciate your reply thanks

Its def not a 5 min job and be very careful with those razor sharp edges on the metal tub, I think most have them.

Just as well to thoroughly clean everything whilst its apart.

I recently had to repair the impellor on the circ. pump, it was running fine but no pressure (well, intermittent but mostly no pressure at all), It had separated into 2 halfs and had to be secured back on with glue, about 3 months later and its still going strong. Next time I will attempt screwing or bolting it on as I'm sure the glue will certainly fail within a year. Might even print off a part with my recent xmas present, a 3d printer.

Once part arrives, fitted and all working pull apart that old one and post photos of the internals. Purely out of interest and possible future reference.

Hi, I have Bosch with the same issue where the water is only going to the upper spray arm. I have removed what I believe is the instantaneous water heater (part 0450 in parts diagram http://www.bosch-home.com/us/store/getAllImagesPDF?vibki=SMU68M05AU/01 ). There is a part 0441 which the diagram states is the 'Water Switch Motor'. Is this the 'Alternating Flow Mechanism' mentioned above that I should be replacing? Any help would be appreciated.

From the diagram it would seem your model is different to that described above, but these diagrams are not always very clear.
Post a photo of part 0441 to confirm, though the description would imply that is the correct part.

Have you done any other checks, starter motor, circulation pump, turbine, clean pipes etc..

Thanks for your reply. The dishwasher works perfectly in washing the dishes in the top tray. I have removed the bottom spray arm and thoroughly cleaned it out, and pulled out the filters at the bottom also. I'm not sure how to do the other checks you mentioned but given it works perfectly in the top tray are these required?

I haven't yet pulled out the water switch motor and will unlikely get a chance to do so for a few days. I'll post a picture once I've done it.

OK in that case I would have to agree that the fault lies with the switch motor.

Hi Yardie, I've fitted the part now and is working good as new. I ended up buying the Alternating Water distributor. Potentially I only needed the motor but I wasn't sure whether the fault was in the motor or the mechanism and this part covered both. I took me a couple of hours to do but could now do it in 30 minutes once you know what panel to take off and how to get to it.

A picture of the part is attached. The motor sits on top and is held in by three screws and can be purchased separately if this is the issue. Similarly you can also just purchase the mechanism. The two combined cost me $A110 delivered which included a new hose clamp that needs to be replaced.
