Hi all,

I have a Bosch wab24161gb/05 washing machine. It is giving a E21 error code. There is not mentioned in any of the documentation/manual of the machine, but from the few posts on the forum, is this due to the carbon brushes on the machine needing replacement or something more serious?. The machine is maybe 4 or 5 years old or older.
Thanks.

Thanks, I will try ordering some new carbon brushes and fitting them to see if that resolves the issue.

Update - changing the carbon brushes worked, I managed to change the brushes without having to remove the motor woohoo. It was fairly easy but fiddly - trying to get and squeeze/push the springs in took a while.

darn it, i spoke too early i tested in on a rinse cycle and it worked - no errors. When it was put on a proper wash cycle today, I am told it gave the same E21 error again grrrrrr. Will it be the motor or bad carbon brushes??

One of the carbon brushes popped out.. I pushed it back in/re-seated it and it still is giving the E21 error code.

Can anyone verify please what the exact way to reset the machine is/to clear the current fault. I got the following off the web

Try erasing the stored codes first, in case it's a spurious fault
Turn the knob to off.
Close the door.
Turn the knob to 6 o'clock position.
Wait 2 seconds.
The start/pause should begin flashing.
Press and hold the spin button.
Turn the knob to 7 o'clock position.
Wait 2 seconds.
Release the button.
Turn the knob to off.

I turned the knob to the 6 o'clock (rinse) position but the start/pause light did not start flashing... what am i doing wrong?

Thanks in advance

WAB range has a different reset procedure, well at least some of them, try this.
Press and hold start button with the programme off, turn programme one click anti clockwise while still holding the start button,
keep start pressed for 5 seconds.

That worked thanks. Hopefully it keeps working. I brought some compatiable carbon brushes which stated that they work with my model it was the ones with the quickest delivery. If the brushes pop out again, I will try ordering and fitting some original bosch brushes.
Thanks for your help all :)
