I have a brass light fight fitting which is a pendant on a brass pole attached/sealed to the ceiling rose at the top and then also sealed to the bulb part at the bottom. I need to make the pole shorter as it is too long for the height of the room. Do you think this is possible as it would need to be re-soldered somewhere and worried this might weaken it? Also who would I find to do this sort of thing?

The pole is probably threaded at either end.

How much shorter do you need it to be?

If only a little, the ceiling end can sometimes be screwed in further, depending on the design of the fitting.

Some fittings come with poles of different lengths and you choose the right one for your ceiling height.

In theory, you could cut the pole shorter and rethread it, but you'd need to know what thread it was.

Or, as you say, you could chop a bit out of the middle and join it back up.

To be honest, these solutions are both a real handful.

You may well be better off buying a new fitting.

Thanks for responding so quickly. This is the drawing which probably shows the light more clearly than I explained it! Do you still think it would be a handful to alter, (none of the pieces are detachable, except the shade)? (Am expecting the answer to be yes!)

Part of the wording says customizable !! So it suggests the "pole" can be shortened ,show us pics of both ends of it ,I suspect it's not going to be simple to customize though !!

It also seems to say removable (pointing to the pole). Can the pole be removed and the shade part be screwed directly to the part which fits on the ceiling?

10mm x 1mm pitch threads are commonly used for lighting so likely unscrews, however cutting and rethreading the square bar may not be easy.
Round lighting threaded 10mm bars are available in many options , if that's a suitable option

Will the rod part unscrew from the part just above the shade and also unscrew from the cup at the top?

If so, can that brass coloured part then be screwed into the cup at the top?

Or does that make it too short then?

No parts screw, everything is soldered so I think it might be too hard to alter. Thank you for your help/messages.

This would be a relatively simple task for anyone with access to a small machine shop.
Do you have a local repair cafe?
Someone there may have the skills, or know someone that could help?
