British Gas DCP uses gas when programmed off?

Hi, I have had this BG DCP controller for many years (fitted by British Gas) and not bothered touching it as I thought it was working OK, however after having Smart meters fitted I noticed that during the night there was gas being used and charged for when the hot water and heating is programmed OFF, I only have the boiler on the gas so it has to be something to do with this.

I have tried to work out what could be causing it, but convinced the programmer is doing something when it should be off, here is my findings, tried each one below over different nights:-

Turned off the mains to the central heating - no gas used overnight
Turned off (Always Off) the hot water via programmer - no gas being used over night
Turned off (Always Off) the heating via programmer - no gas being used overnight
But when I leave the central heating mains on and program the hot water and heating off - small amount of gas being used every night

This equates to over £1 every night, which is quite a lot over a year !!!

Can anybody shed any light on why this might happen, does the boiler have a mind of its own, do I need a new programmer (if so can you recommend a good one), or what?

Any help would be very appreciated as I am now confused and need to find a solution

Likely to be the boiler firing up to pre-heat water or as an anti-freeze measure. What boiler (make and model)?

Its a Glow-worm 15hxi.

If it is then its costing me £365 year to do this.

I have read that this boiler will fire up if the temp goes below 3 degrees, but my house is always over 12 degrees?

I assume your readings from your smart meter will be taken from the in home display. My display includes the standing charge which registers daily shortly after midnight.

My standing charge is 32p, which EDF told me would be there in the morning, the cost shown for gas is between £1.50 and £2 every morning, also I can see the energy used, every hour roughly the same amount

That is a lot of gas, it equates to my daily usage at the moment for heating and hot water. Can you take readings directly from your meter to repeat your findings rather than relying on the ihd?

I have verified the amount of gas used with the meter and its the same overnight, during the day the IHD shows it fluctuates and sometimes zero gas for some hours, I am sure its costing me more than it should, but dont know if its the programmer or boiler that is at fault.

Perhaps the burner shut-off valve is passing?

When I turned off the mains for the Central heating system so nothing kicked in, the amount of gas used was Zero, so I dont feel I have a gas leak or else it would have shown some used gas

These show when I set programmer to always off for heating and hot water, or when I program the Heat and HW to be off and still uses gas
