Hi Guys

Is there any engineer available to repair my Britony II T water heater.

The issue is pilot light goes out when the hot water tap is turned on.

What I require is an engineer who has knowledge on these boilers and is happy to repair them.

I am based in Kingston Upon Thames.

Good little water heater in their day, as your post suggests a lot of engineers these days are only interested in central heating, you might be better contacting the makers Chaffoteaux, I think they are part of Ariston now.

When I was working (15 years or more ago! )I used to get my Chaffoteaux parts from here

Might be worth a ring, to see if they still deal with them, Kingston might be out of their area though, still they may be able to suggest someone in your area if they are still doing Chaff bits.

It would be better to put your postcode here.

In case someone like me would want to see how close it is to the 57 bus or other transport.

Whilst I could get there, as its very old, the chance of seized screws is very high as well as the difficulty of getting spare parts. Although your description of the symptoms would indicate that it would normally be a relatively simple problem.

It would be far better for a local engineer if you can find one willing to work on such an old appliance. As I would be charging a diagnostic fee of £94 you might also consider if it would be better to bite the bullet and replace it.

These kind of gas only operated water heaters have been very reliable but the current tendency is to us electrically operated units which are virtually a normal boiler but they don't seem terribly reliable. There is a post today about a Baxi one giving problems which has already had a new PCB fitted last year. Most of the old ones work for 5-6 years even if they are not serviced as they should be every year.

Thank guys for replying back.

As you both have said these are great reliable water heaters. The water heater only supply hot water to a kitchen sink and wash basin, never used to fill the bath so in general only very light use.

Even if I were to change to a new boiler i feel these would cost more to repair in the long run due to the PCB failures and the cost of the new boiler replacement.

I have spoken to Ariston aready and seem that the problem is either with the gas flow into the boiler or diaphragm.

I have had engineers out in the past for a service and I never feel confident that they know what they are doing. So hence I thought I would try and find a Knowledgeable engineer who know how these boilers work.

I have checked online and it seem most parts still able at the moment.

Just to advise the post code is KT2 7RU and the 57 bus stop is about 10 mins walk. If it would help I may also be able to provide some transport help.

Is parking that bad in K.U.T.?

If you don't find anyone local then I might consider coming on the 57 bus.

By chance I will be using it on Thurs evening.
