Britony II T knowledgeable engineer required

I'm in Kingston if Tonys bus doesn't turn up!

The 57 runs every 8-11 mins!

But when you are close by then you should be doing the job!

I had my fingers burned yesterday/today when a boiler in Clapham with an intermittent fault stopped working completely while I was looking at it yesterday and I had to return urgently today with a replacement PCB.

Hi just joined . Surfing internet last night re my Britony II T gas water heater fitted oct 2003. My issue is the same as gizmod ie pilot light goes out when the hot water tap is on. I am a lady living on my own now after the death of my Mother (long term caring). I still live in my family home and a lot of stuff is ancient. My Father (RIP) built my house and was a carpenter by trade, he fitted everything in the house originally but not last water heater. Dont know whether Im being told the right stuff by various. My previous boiler man who lives long distance away now who i've spoken to on phone and recent guy who came out to look both say the Brittony obsolete now and parts cost a lot and that i need a new water heater at cost of £700 + (with fitting inc) or recent guy says just a new gas part section will cost £400+ but he has put blocked pilot on form so would I not be able to just have pilot injector replaced? I am in Bromley , Kent (Greater London)

I am surprised that the original turned out to be a blocked pilot injector.

In theory it would not make any difference apart from a reduced pilot flame size.

In fact what happens is that the gas supply pipe is usually undersized ( in 15 mm ) and when it fires up the gas pressure at the inlet reduces and the pilot goes out. It should only go down by 1 mbar in 20 mbar with a correct size 22 mm gas supply pipe.

Replacing the whole gas section absolves the engineer of any mis diagnosis.

In reality the injector orifice can be cleaned!

The gas flame was very reduced and blowing out reg. A friend had a look inside in the week and cleaned a few parts he could reach but he did nt know how to sort the pilot injector. The flame after that blew out everytime i put the hot water on whereas it was intermittent before. I now cant get the flame to ignite at all with the ignition since the eng came and looked at it.

No one should even remove the case unless they are gas safe registered!

You need a competent gas reg engineer to look at it.

Tony
