Brits now destroying their own tourism industry

did I read that right?

Did you read what right?

That someone had put their house up for rent at over £10K/day?

Yes.

That the average cost of a holiday let for 5 in St. Ives is nearly £72K/week?

No.

Stayed on a pub caravan site £13, two sunday roasts , two pints, two puds £35
My local does similar, steak and trimmings £12, fish n chips £11 (takeaway £8), all the other mains under a tenner. Meals of a size you don't go away hungry. Beer £3.80 to £4.10 a pint. Wine and spirits not expensive.
and if you visit in a 'van you can use the car park overnight for free provided you have one (group/family) meal in the pub per day.

It’s not just Britain. In Tenerife last night we were just walking, I kept complaining that I was hungry and wanted to home for my tea.
Where we were, there were three Indian places all advertising 3 courses for 10.95€ so we decided to eat in one.
However, just before we finished the main (2nd) course, I enquired about the dessert to be told that we’ve had 3 courses. I replied that we’ve only had two, a starter and a main. Yes, came the reply but, a starter is one course, a curry is another course and rice or nan bread is another. My reply was, that’s 3 dishes not 3 courses.
He did relent and gave us a dessert, which was crap ice cream.
Water was 2.95€/litre. I can buy an 8 litre bottle for 90 centimos, that’s 8 centimos a litre.
I don’t have to say that I won’t be back there. And take it as a warning to watch for that trick in future.

The only reason to go to Tenerife is to pick up a sailing boat and sail the WAS between Tenerife and La Gomera, go cycling or play golf. its a nice winter destination but thats about it. Lanzergrotti is no better.

I take it that you don’t know Tenerife?

I went to a local pub with Mrs Bod and my two young girls. Soda water with lime, two lemonades and a beer. £12 odd. I've not been back since.
I was in the Langton Hills golf club a couple of weeks ago. Two white wines, two soda water and lime just over £9. Later on, two soda waters with limes - £1.30. Later on still, one soda water and one soda water with lime - 65p! I suppose the soda water was free and lime was 65p a splash? I felt like the last of the big spenders………

I'm really lucky that my local in Bristol is a small cider house (also does nice pint of Tribute or Jail Ale) that has been run by a lovely Wolverhampton lady called Debbie for the last 22 years. She's in business to make a living, not a killing. Her sunday roasts are famous and a really big plate full of lots of different things, even roast potatoes and mash for £9. Beer/cider is about £3.80 which is good for Bristol. Going this Sunday, and I know I will have to stay for a couple more pints after the meal to let it all go down. I've never got as far as the desserts.

There's even a Banksy on the wall next to the jukebox.

Can't wait to get back to Czech Republic though, where I can get a pint of their excellent beer for £1 - sometimes a bit less. A main course in my favourite Italian is around £4.

I find every food outlet I have been to, the staff are exceedingly kind and safety conscious.

Too many moaning Minnie's on here.
