Broke a gas pipe

The glove was used to stop any dirt going into the dead part of the pipe in case they needed to connect it back. On the live side of the pipe we used a yellow end cap fitting I luckily had lying around. But gas pressure is very low, I think it is like 60 mbars before the gas meter compare this with 2 - 4 bar in water pipes, a factor of 30+. The workmen said when you light it up it only produces a 50 cm flame. At that point I did ask him to put his cigarette out.

We managed to pour the foundations today. Under the live gas pipe.
believe it or not sometimes in certain situations its safer if they are alight . You know that its being burnt and not entering somewhere and getting to explosive limits .
Attended a few were we have had to say to fire brigade damp down around it but leave it lit .

Do you think the ground level in your driveway may have been lowered previously at some point, leaving the limited cover?
The ground is sloping upwards to the left of the photo. There is a terrace/flowerbed on the left of the photo and a retaining wall (which I am rebuilding).

They originally passed the pipe "under" the terrace. I removed part of it and exposed the pipe. Without the flowerbed the pipe is above surface level. I think they may have used a mole to pass it under successive terraces, foundations, retaining walls etc.

It is also found to be teeing off my gas pipe! SGN will be digging new trenches and passing a completely new pipe for the neighbour house, going completely over their land and not encroaching into mine.

I was told I will be fined for having damaged the pipe. As far as I am concerned it is above ground level where I cut it. Maybe they will let me off.

they usually dont charge if it less than 18 inches in depth you could also argue it should not have been there in the first place
