What Climbdown? He has merely brought Britain into line with payments, if the french won't do the same that is up to them at least we can hold our heads up high and say we did the right thing!

So selling us out to the benefit of everyone else EXCEPT us you don't consider a climbdown..

I think most people here know I was always staunchly pro-europe, but even I have had enough of the rubbish we are getting lumbered with.

The French now recieve TWICE the rebate we do, yet they pay HALF as much..

We are a nation of fools led by the incompetent..until we wake up Europe will shaft us at every turn.

I never thought I would say this, but I would support the removal of Britain from the EU..wasteful bunch of malingering scroungers..
The only bit of your argument that i can see is you moan about the french, well what the french do is up to them , let it not be said that britain doesn't pay her way in europe! Now there will be no argument when the french criticise any proposal from britain and i think blair has been extremely clever in doing what he has done during his term as president.

Up to now he has had a hard time proposing anything due to criticism about payments always coming into the argument , britain has enjoyed low payments for far longer than we should have so look on it as a bonus and the inevitable had to happen sometime.

we're not giving it to france, they are refusing to budge on lowering their rebate, we have done the right thing it's time for france to come inline with the rest of europe now and as they are now out on a limb by themselves they will find it extremeley hard to get their way until their agreement runs out in 2014.

I don't understand how they got away with this time round. Does sound like Blair wasn't tough enough with the french.

But europe is not centred just around Blair the decisions made are collective, the fact that france hasn't lost their rebates is because they are being stubborn but eventually they will have to cave in like we have.
After all how can you go for an ideal system if those involved don't agree and toe the line? it's up to Blair in his presidency to continually pressurise france into agreeing now to back down after this current agreement which ends in 2014 is finished.

we could send a message to france DONT BUY ANY FROGGY MOTORS
