BT underground junction box within my property boundary and road name sign

No. The utilities companies have ongoing easement right whereby they can dig up the (1.8m or so) margin of land betwixt the carriageway and the owners border in order to run cables/pipes/ducting etc. If people want to widen their drive and thus pave over the grassed verge, in order to reach the road without driving through mud, they must instal demarcation edgings.
Interestingly, and bizarrely, a demarcation edge is there, and has always been there, but frequently covered by weeds and soil. In part it was also covered by tarmac. So I‘ve asked the council to advise who should remove the tarmac. My husband had a go and spent a few hours, but at least now the clear boundary is visible…

Do me a favour (or should that be flavour?).

I am intrigued: which is your fave chocolate treat?

I could eat most chocolate, although I rarely do.

But my faves would probably be Double Decker, Picnic and Boost.

Checked and double checked the deeds. Both our within our boundary. The pavement is wide enough to accommodate a sign. I think someone was lazy and saw and opportunity to not have to drill holes into tarmac.
Ah, a 'Benefit' of electronic Land Registry and loss of paper records. A footway box won't be recorded in the deeds but covered by a separate 'Wayleave' document that would have been included with the paper deeds (records). Quite possibly a member of the solicitors staff who dealt with the house purchase didn't recognise the significance of the document.
If the footway box has a Wayleave associated there will a payment made for it being on your land, as with most payments that is most likely an electronic transfer paid once every few years (3,5 or10); quite possibly still being paid to the original property owner.

We were never made aware of a Wayleave. The original owner died before we bought the house. Where would I find such a document? The solicitor who helped us has long retired. I might ask the firm. I think they still exist. Failing that…where do I look, please? And ideas?

The solicitor was a specialist in all things property. And a friend. I‘m sure he would have recognised such a thing…but who knows?!

Sorry for the tardy response.
It is quite possible that the owner, morgage holder or their legal agent did not recognise the significance of the Wayleave doc and disposed of it.

Where to go to - I'd suggest Openreach. Write or eMail their complaints link. If you get no responce within 3 weeks from them then write Mike McTighe at OpenReach.

What is possible is that assumed the land on the public side of the fence posts (hedge) was public property. See https://www.openreach.com/help-and-support/obtaining-wayleaves

I mentioned Monty Bojangles somewhere below. However, I have just tried Utah Mint Truffles and they are truly scrumptious.
