Building an underground panic room, from inside an old well?

I've been considering building some kind of shelter/panic room from inside my old well, which has not been in use for 30 years. And i think if I want a place to hide, either from bad weather or someone that would be an ideal place. Also it would be able to be used as a fallout shelter.

The well itself is about 30 meters deep.

I have made a simple drawing with my ideas.

Do you guys have any experience or ideas you want to share?

Thank you!

Max - Sweden

Why would anyone one to build a room for panicking in!! Seriously though, to avoid bad weather and / or people you don't want to see, ur actually gonna hide down a well. :D

I just also like the idea of having a secret hideout :D

I mean, that well would be an easy place to start, since I dont have to do any vertical digging. :)

IIRC, Sweden was one of only a few countries where provision of a nuclear fallout shelter was/is compulsory for many properties, and quite common

As this is a UK site, we probably don't have the required specialist knowledge, as despite having Europe's biggest nuclear arsenal, we (the public) were just expected to fry, hide under the kitchen table or die a gallant, but otherwise slow lingering death

The only other pointers I can give is perhaps looking a Switzerland where domestic shelters are still compulsory

I have no intention of either when it all goes off, I shall buy some baked beans, take some doors off their hinges and lean them against a wall, lean a mattress and some cushions up against the opening and sit it out, oh yea I'm gonna be a survivor!

Me too Freddy, just think of all the extension plans and new builds that will be needed. We'll be raking it in .... and could up the rates to what Peca27 charges now:cool:

And we could legitimately tell the client to "keep their hair on" when we're a bit late with the drawings.

Zombie hordes may be an issue though. May be best to help the OP and get a seat in the shelter

An austrian bloike called Josef Fritzl may have some ideas.

Or google blue prints for area 51

Make sure the entrance is not to close to the house, otherwise if the house collapses it may fall onto the entrance blocking you in (as happened in some james herbert book I read as a child). Also make sure the air vents can't be blocked by falling objects (as happened in the same book, and the guy suffocated to death).

I've always liked the idea of borying an iso container at the bottom of my garden and building a shed on top for a secret room/bat cave. With a trap door in the shed for access.

so if you are under attack you have to go outside to hide, need a way in from inside the house

you may have unlimited drinking water but what are you going to do about sewage disposal?

I guess i could connect a toilet to the sewage system of my house, but the problem is if the sewage pipes are higher up than the toilet...
