Bull fighting..

I

imamartian

well it's holiday season, lots of people off to Spain.... what do we think of their little 'tradition'?

I used to be totally anti..... and still thinks the actual theatre of it all is wrong... however, i recently read an article writen by a bullfighter, and i have very mixed views now.. the crux of it all is how the animal is treated up to the fight. An average bull has a very short factory managed type life, whereas your average bullfight bull is treated much better and lives much longer. But has to endure 20 minutes of humiliation (a human emotion) and torture (the key point)... but weighing things up, 20 minutes pain and distress for 3 years more in a field?

I'm sure quite a few 'humanely' killed beasts are actually tortured and treated like sh1t in our abatoirs...?

In my opinion it's barbaric, and is on parr with some of their other so called customs, like throwing a donkey off a church tower, cruel and unnecessary.

yeah i agree, but look past the 20 minutes of barbaric sadistic nonsence, and ask yourself does the animla get 2 or 3 three better years for the cost of that 20 minutes?

and what about animals that don't get destroyed in a bullring, are they any better off on 'some' abatoirs?

I dont think it will be long until they stop it. Over 3/4 of Spanish people are now against it, Some TV channels wont broadcast it anymore.

There is no profit in it anymore. The bulls are bred to be nasty and cranky! they choose the bulls with the worst temper so to speak. Then for a few days before the fight they wind the bull up to get it hyped, then they put vaseline in its eyes to blur the vision, put cloth in its ears and nostrils to distress. They also put chemicals on its legs (bit like deepheat) to irritate it and to make it feel unbalanced.

It is true they lead a better life up untill the fight, when they are about 5 years old. I respect other countries cultures and past times but I dont think it will be long until the stop it.

I understand what you are saying, but would the animal (bull) be aware of it's demise, be it sooner or later? I doubt they have that power of thought, if an animal is to be tortured to death, then it will probably fight to the end, I have no sympathy if the Matador gets gored, serves him right! the poor bull however has it's fate sealed.

we perhaps then choose to ignore the plight of your average bull, forced away from its herd, push/whipped/beaten into a lorry, driven many miles, dragged off the lorry, hungry? thirsty?.... kicked, beaten... and then killed

Doesn't make it right though does it?

Your argument appears to be solely based on the assumption mistakes are frequently made in abbatoirs.

One of my studies many years ago...A barbaric sport derived from the ancient bull cults and religions, and corrupted by the Romans and the cruelty of their ampitheatres.
The bull has very little previous human contact...a bull that gets to know the human phsyche is a dangerous bull for the matador.

Hopefully it will be done away with soon...and the terrible wounds inflicted on the picadors horses by bulls horns, even with all the padding.

How the hell it's been allowed to continue in this modern world shows how sick humans are when it comes to their blood sports. The EEC could have done away with this years ago...maybe if it affected MEPs earnings they would have done something long ago.

I'd like to see Bullfighting brought in over here. I'd like to stick all the knobs from the GD Forum in a ring with some angry Bulls and watch them get trampled! So much Bull spoken in the GD Forum!

And what about the small daggers stuck in the neck vertebra before the fight starts, followed by the the four lances during the fight, all to prevent the bull from lifting it's head.

The most pathetic thing I have ever seen and it certainly isn't macho.

Bull fighting is a Spanish tradition and part of the culture - what rights have we got to change that tradition?

In parts of the Middle East you have your hand chopped off if your caught stealing, we don't protest about that happening, yet is is more barbaric, but keeps crime levels low!

The EU has FAR too much say and interferes too much in domestic matters. It is about time its powers are dramatically reduced.

Just because it is a tradition does not make it less barbaric. In some countries it is a tradition ti circumcise little girls, should we just let them get on with it because it is a tradition?

In China it was tradition to bind womens feet. Thankfully that has stopped.

Sorry, but some traditions always were and always will be barbaric and wrong.
