I don’t think you’ll get many people jumping into this one, but I wouldn’t rule out such motors like the Kia Rio and Hyundai i20 or whatever. There’s one in Blyth, Autotrader with Lots of history and full MOT.
You’ll appreciate if its a dealer purchase then he’ll be making around £750 on a car of your pricing but at least you’ll get some sort of warranty.
Personally I don’t think VW have stood up to the mark regarding rust and timing chains for example - maybe resting on their laurels a bit? The Fox springs to mind which should be an excellent buy but sadly it isn’t.
A basic Clio is worth a look, likewise the Citroen C3......no rust unless pranged and cheap after market parts.
The Mk 7 Fiesta is infinitely better than the Mk6 and could be a good private buy.....they are making daft money in the trade.
You’ll get sensible owner reviews if you look at Honest John.

It is if there's a problem with the car.
Not in the case of a private sale because there will be no comeback whatever happens.
I thought the OP was only considering a dealer, I've not really read every post tbh.
I was originally, but trade looks a bit safer, especially not being clued up too much and not much money spare if i muck this up.
So far I've 2 cars from trade in mind that ive found so far .
57 plate mk6 fiesta, £2000 with 64k miles
10 plate mk7 fiesta, £1700 with 143k miles
A 58 plate polo from a private seller, £1400 with 106k miles
I am interested in the polo but lack skills in spotting anything dodgy and taking heed of john burnerman so looking at the trade fiestas with the cam belt in mind.
Any thoughts on the fiestas i mentioned? Too msny miles at 143k?

Decisions, decisions......out of those I’d have to for the lower mileage Fiesta but I’d also want a reasonable warranty.

Had a look at it and after messing on with public transport getting there, was really disappointed.
The salesaman was economical with the truth. The car hadn't had a service stamp in 5 years, oil was black as midnight, overdue cam belt, blistering of paint under the wing and origional battery in 11 year old car which needed jumping to take for a test drive.
Drove well but brakes drawing to one side when braking.
Really disappointed with the state of the car. Was i unlucky or is this comon? Needless to say i didnt buy it
